I am sitting in this hotel/casino, missing my dog. Mrs. IM says he has been a mess since I left, and has been super needy. This photo popped up on FB this morning, from when he was just a baby, about 4 months old.

Kinja'd!!!

We have gotten so used to being together all the time that we are both a little lost when we aren’t together.

I had dinner last night with a group that included a key staffer for the Governor on agriculture . Nice guy, who I think genuinely cares about small farmers . But listening him talk about how legislation gets done and why things happen the way they do in Sacramento made me nauseous. The dominant forces appear to be personal ambition, narcissism, and childish ego battles. Science and sound policy goals are way in the background. Never peek at how the sausage gets made. Dogs are higher up the evolutionary ladder than humans. Fight me.

Hey, you’re only gone for a bit. The reunion between you two will be great.

My only experience with politics (other than a lot of reading and papers) was question period for safe injection sites. The debate waged back and forth between the grounds of “but drugs are bad ” and “we need to stop people from dying”.

He’s such a little tiny pup there. So cute.

You’ll see him again soon enough, then you’ll be able to go out on an all bloke bonding session.

This makes me miss my old dog. He died a few years ago, but while he was alive, he was the sweetest, friendliest dog I’ve ever met. He loved attention and had the softest fur, but sadly he had an incurable ear infection that resulted in him smelling like a thousand rotting corpses vomi ted all the time, so few people could stand to be a round him for very long. Eventually, he developed too many weird health problems and had to be put down, which was super depressing. But I’m glad we had him while we did. It’s better to have a dog and be sad when they die than to not have a dog at all. Cherish every moment you spend with your beloved pet!

Was gone for a week for the holidays . Had to leave my Toby with the in-laws. When we picked him up, he wouldn’t leave my side all afternoon. The missus had to drive home, because he refused to sit anywhere but on my lap.
